Chase fraud alert called to check on transactions and put my card on hold

I bought three things online today and got a call right after the third to check on my activity
The only thing is the VRU wants the last four of the cc and last four of ss BUT then describes the amounts of the charges

Just saying how do I know that isn't part of the trick .....

At least they are clearly checking things quickly with their fiasco again with our cc -

problem with the employees?

I've been really busy and haven't had a chance to find the details. I heard an NPR blurb that suggested it was just credit cards used in NY? (maybe NYC)... Is that right?

My credit union hasn't notified me so, I hope I'm ok...

The timing of them checking on me and that go hand and hand

I pay all my bills online and they have never called

If your card is declined then you know it was Chase who called you. Then you can call them and ask them why it was declined and take care of it in that way.

Since I confirmed the two transactions they asked about.
They said I could contact the merchant to let them know
The merchant is not in the office today, not till monday, by then the hold would be off

No one bar no one who calls asking for info that might allow access to my finances will get it. Thanks for the call, I will call you right back. At the number on the back of the card itself.

Last four of my SS or CC would each throw red flags for me. I will give my name, no more. Granted its probably legit. That's fine. If its legit, it can wait another 2 minutes while I call back at a number I know and work through the system back to the fraud dept.

If they want to talk to me, thats where the communication will start. I call that number. From that number they either transfer me or give me the number for the fraud prevention section. I do not share any information with any person on the phone unless I initiated the call to a verified/trusted phone number.

Noone else has to live by my rules. But thats how I deal with the bank. I'd rather be overcautious than under, because I know from experience what a PITA it is when things go wrong.
