My first ever video share! A newly hatched loggerhead turtle making its 1st journey to the ocean



This is Edisto Island, SC. The legs you see at the end of the video are those of a woman as part of the official island "Turtle Patrol". These volunteers assist in tracking turtle nests and make it easier for them to find the water.

what a treat to witness this force of nature...

a couple of years ago when I was working on the coast in Florida, one of those wonderful 'volunteers' taught me so much about the loggerhead turtles... I walked the beach every morning while there and met 'Bob' who cruised the beach every morning to check for new nests to make sure they were far enough away from the tide so they didn't get washed out... if the nest was too close he would dig it up and bury the eggs further away (often he would do this with a group of kids to teach them)... it was a special treat for me to meet him and learn so much
