Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI found out what was causing potential trucking employers to turn me down.
It's kind of complicated, but now that I've got it sorted out I can start looking for jobs where I more closely match the hiring criteria and stop spinning my wheels applying at companies that won't be interested in me. I just wish the companies that wanted to hire me before would have checked me out more closely before they hauled me off to orientation or led me on thinking I had a job when it wasn't exactly set in stone.
A lot of trucking companies are so desperate for drivers that when they see someone with a Class A CDL they promise them the world and even cart them off hundreds of miles to an orientation before they actually check their background. That's not right.
Now that I've got it sorted out, I know specifically what to look for and what to ask. As a result, I have two companies interested in me where I have a much better chance of actually being employed. I'm just glad that there are a lot of opportunities out there for truckers right now. It's also a good sign that the economy is recovering.

(10,418 posts)It looks like if I want a good paying job using that degree, I'm going to have to do it starting at a driving job and working my way up within that company. I can't find a job that pays enough to start out using my degree right now. I guess that kind of thing can happen if you are 42 when you graduate from college. I've got a lot more overhead than someone half my age.
Thanks for the well wishes.
