our clientele has been steadily dropping over the years. This year almost nothing - maybe 25 or so.
We live in a small midwestern town. When our kids were young our street was the street to hit. 25 years later and we have almost no kids on Halloween.
We closed up early and went to see where everyone was. They were in the new part of town.
There is also a new wrinkle - a 'trunk or treat' kind of thing that takes place before the official t-or-t time. It is a treat trail. We will probably head up there next year.
My neighbor has been here @ as long as we have. The lack of trickers really had him and his wife bummed out. He wasn't too wild about the treat trail, but said they may go that way next year also.
Got a hell of a lot of candy left - big bars all. The last kids that came up got a real treat.

(5,935 posts)It's been four years since our last trick-or-treater. I didn't even buy treats this year.
The neighborhood has aged and all of the kids are flocking to the newer, bordering neighborhood.

(115,895 posts)The weather might have something to do with it - it's not especially cold but it's damp and drizzly, not fun T or T weather. But anyhow I have a ridiculous amount of candy. I'll eat the Almond Joys and try to give away the rest.

(16,388 posts)It's not quiet 8:00 yet, but I'd say we've had half the number of last year. I had a feeling and didn't buy much candy this time and I still have some left. As much as I love our little goblins, I have noticed the kids being a little ruder, too. One child, around five years old asked, "Is that all?" and another told me he only wanted Skittles and grabbed a package right out of the bowl I was holding(!) In MY DAY we were grateful for anything and ALWAYS said thank you. Little boogers.

(12,682 posts)Including the Mia-bear and little Pickle who's celebrating her first Halloween. If family members count.
43 this year is odd, as in our complex of over 250 spaces, there were nearly 80 last year, and we had almost 100 kids at the complex Halloween party on Saturday. First group started coming around at 5:45, with the last group around 8pm, and nothing after that - and we stayed up and kept the decoration lights on until 9:30 just in case the older kids decided to scoop up leftovers, as they did last year.
Heck, it was pretty well known that this year, one house was giving away stuffed animals, one was giving away full sized candy bars, and one was giving away lunchbox-sized bags of chips and a bottle water - and I was giving out full sized Rice Krispy bars ($1 coupon at the Commissary for the 16 unit boxes you find in with the breakfast bars - I got five boxes).
True, about five of the homes are for sale right now, and we've still got a lot of old people who were original owners, but there's been at least five families with 2 - 3 kids that have moved in since last Halloween - with only one family moving out, so one would think they'd be out, school night or no.
Mia-bear racked up, and she was out between 6pm and 6:40.

(26,117 posts)due to kidlet's away bball game. The street looked plenty crazy when we got back, though (near the end of trick or treat time).
First time since 1995 that we weren't able to hand out candy.

Before we moved to the country, we lived in a new housing plan. Halloween was so much fun there! Lots of little kids and everyone would go "all out" with decorations, spooky music, the whole works. Fun memories.

(46,768 posts)I think the reason there were few Halloween displays (scarecrows and pumpkins in just half a dozen houses and that was on a block over) was due to Hurricane Matthew. We lost a week in October that could have been spent on the displays.

She was wearing footie pajamas.
"What are you?"
"I'm Pajama Girl."
I didn't know that was a thing.
The .2 was a one year old brought by his grandpa just to show him off.
He had no idea what Halloween or trick or treating was about.
