(46,705 posts)"Hey, Mofos, I scored the lead in the next Jack Bauer spin-off so you can take this Heath character and do what you did to my boy Glenn."
Glenn spared him from killing that sleeping Saviour. There's nothing for him to come back to. Which makes it hard for Tara, because she has to make it back on her own.

Straight Outta Compton and The Walking Dead's Corey Hawkins Starring in 24: Legacy
Corey Hawkins, who played Dr. Dre in Straight Outta Compton and can currently be seen as Heath on The Walking Dead, has been cast as the male lead in FOX's Jack Bauer-less 24 spinoff, 24: Legacy.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Hawkins will play former Army Ranger Eric Carter, who's now working with the CTU (Counter Terrorist Unit)

(56,828 posts)According to Spoiling Dead Fans... Heath is in tonight's episode, but it's not clear what happens to him in terms of living or dying. However, on their Facebook page, they also list it as the only episode in which Heath appears this season.

I was all, "Who lied?"
"The Walking Dead lied."
"Lied about what?"
"Remember when they said the season premier was going to be intense, but the rest of the season was going to be even more intense?"
"Yep."
"They lied."

(56,828 posts)I thought the show lost a lot of the intensity at the very start by having us wait 20 minutes until they showed Abraham and Glenn being killed.
So far, they've had some great and intense moments since episode 1, but they've been moments in 60 minute episodes. I also really think the show suffers by focusing on one location each week. With Game of Thrones, other than a few big episodes, they show us all the different locations each week, save maybe one. With TWD, it's the opposite, they show us mostly one location each week so entire story lines are dropped for 2, 3 or 4 weeks or more. It makes for disjointed storytelling. Carol and Morgan at the Kingdom was episode 2... we're now on episode 6 with nothing on either of them since. Tara and Heath return last night, and how many are even going to remember that we haven't seen them since the end of last season? If the episode focuses on Tara and Heath, do we even see Morgan, Carol, Shiva and Ezekiel this week? How about next week? So, all the excitement over Shiva and Ezekiel is lost because they're gone for at least 4 episodes.
Sorry to rant here, but this has been an issue I've had since they had that season 4 cliffhanger and then didn't resolve it to go to two "Governor" bottle episodes. They could have told us that same Governor's story in 10-12 minute clips each week over the first 7 or 8 episodes of the season and it would have been more effective, IMHO.

(47,209 posts)Gets resolved, a bit of calm stuff, maybe new characters or romance. Then a zombie invasion or clash with another group happens, they all split up- for a season or longer?!? And I'm losing the plot.
I miss carol and what's his name. Don't care tons for the people in the main group and they're boring me.

(56,828 posts)The comics are better at maintaining a cohesive overall story, but even they got pretty formulaic in the end. I stuck with them through All Out War, but lost interest when they got to The Whisperers - the next group of bad guys.

(56,828 posts)Other than spoilers for tonight's episode, I am guessing that after the mid season finale, they will move to the "All Out War" story line from the comics. Or, maybe the finale will end with Rick declaring all out war?
The Governor was introduced at the start of season 3 on TWD, and he was around until the season 4 midseason finale. Negan first appeared at the end of the season 6 finale, so I am guessing that he'll be around until the season 8 midseason finale at least?

(90,765 posts)Though a lot of people do want the character killed off.
I do, too - if they are going to drag the whole Negan as overlord story out for more than a season.
I'd like to see JDM integrated into the show, though I can see the problems with that. Fans want Maggie to kill him.
But one of the themes of the show is redemption, so...

they're near DC. Alexandria the city is right on the outskirts, and I assume that Alexandria is near there (the comics do feature them going into DC a few times)

(22,340 posts)It lacks focus and intensity.
They told us that the first episode would be intense but the rest would be more intense. That was just a bald-faced lie. I get the point of trying to make us feel disconnected since that is how the characters must feel, but this is just silly. This is paced like you could binge watch it on Netflix. How many weeks has it been since Ezekial? I mean, I've pretty much forgotten about him. And the whole point of this episode is to introduce a likely minor group of people and show that the Saviors have a wide reach. We needed 60 minutes for that?
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)As I said above, there have been some great moments since the season premiere, but they've been moments within 60 minute episodes.
Ezekiel, Shiva, Morgan and fan-favorite Carol were in episode 2 and have not been seen or heard from since. According to Spoiling Dead, they will not be around in episode 7, either.
It would have worked better if:
Episode 2: Carol wakes up in the Kingdom, talks a bit with Morgan, and then he wheels her around the village, ending with the two of them going in to meet Ezekiel. (Cut to Alexandria, or Hilltop, or even Oceanside)
Episode 3: We see some Kingdom people giving walker fed pigs to The Saviors and Morgan trains a guy with the staff. Carol and Ezekiel meet Ezekiel and Shiva and talk a bit. (Cut to The Sanctuary and Daryl in his cell)
Episode 4: Carol tries to pilfer a few things, but then meets Zeke and has a more serious talk where we get more of his backstory and Shiva's backstory. Cut to The Sanctuary or Alexandria)
Episode 5: Carol tells Morgan she has to leave, but then she goes to that house just outside the kingdom. Ezekiel comes by and offers her some fruit. And, for fuck's sake, have Shiva pounce on a stray walker so we can see what he can do! They took the time to show us Negan bashing in a walker's head with a huge wooden lamp stand, why not this?
Then, you can drop Carol/Morgan/Ezekiel/Shiva location for a single week.
suffragette
(12,232 posts)Agree with you that it would be better if they flipped between these a bit within the same episode.
It could make for interesting contrast and comparison as well.

(3,051 posts)But I was mad at the last episode with the gun confiscation -- Negan using the gun inventory to make sure he confiscated all the weapons of the Alexandria group.
This was pretty clearly an anti-gun registry dog whistle -- "look, a registry leads to confiscation."
Unnecessary to the plot.
