technically, I use leftover applesauce cups and I top them with these little plastic mesh discs that are made for yarn embroidery.

But yeah, I've done the thing with the plastic wrap/poked holes.

Also, it's good to add a drop or two of dish liquid - it breaks the surface tension of the mix so the buggers sink instead of float.

I put in apple cider vinegar, water and a spot of dishwashing liquid. The soap breaks the surface tension so when they go in and touch the water they drown instead of being able to fly away.
