Marshall amps are without a doubt one of the defining sounds in rock, and can be heard in countless recordings. I'll never forget the first time I stood in front of a JMP I had just purchased, plugged in a Stratocaster, and hit a chord. No other sound quite like it.
Thanks for all you did for music Jim, your legacy will live on.

(33,688 posts)When overdriven and distortet tubed Marshalls pop overtones into space like nothing else. For bass guitar, and for guitarists who prefer outboard distortion units (like David Gilmour) or play undistorted (like Mark Knopfler) the Hiwatt is a better amp because it is so clean. But for the real rock'n'roll roar, the Marshall is the standard by which all others are judged.
A long-gone music store in St. Paul turned down $1000 for this limited edition poster from Marshall:
