The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsHello fellow DUers.
I currently reside in Metro Atlanta and not working so was looking for some thought provoking conversation to spend time perusing as well as factual (i.e., non-"fake news" forums with accurate news updates. I just recently stumbled upon this site from a HuffingtonPost comment. Glad I did and enjoying the dialogue and enormous info provided. I have made this site my first read daily (also my last check each night).
I just today made my 10th post and finally able to start a thread (http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=forum&id=1002).
Enjoying my newfound site and hope to become a productive contributor to the mission of DU.

(12,132 posts)Shout out to the ATL! My little brother was born there but that was like 48~49 years ago. I don't remember much of it. We moved soon after he was born.

(1,097 posts)Love it here, most of the times. Weather is 4 seasons (vs LA) and winters are fairly mild -- can't beat it.

(1,097 posts)it's healthier to get it out of your system than to hold it all in and take out on others unjustifiably.

(163 posts)Speaking of fake news. Almost no one has heard the story of a person back in late 1960's whose future was deemed to important to risk his life in Vietnam. What almost nobody knows is that he was sent to VN on a top secret mission that was so important that no record of it was ever made. A long range recon patrol (LRRP) team had been cornered by a company of NVA's finest Op's team. The LRRP team was holding hugely classified info, which could not fall into the NVA's hand. After this LRRP team was rescued by this unnamed person, this type of special mission was for ever called a "Special long range recon patrol in escalating situations" or, better known as SLRRPIES.
Sorry

(20,998 posts)After the cheney*/bush* Selection of 2000 I felt horribly alone and hideously depressed... and then I found DU. And I realized there were a whole hella lot of persons --good people from all parts of the US and all walks of life-- that felt the way I did. I found like-minded individuals and most important, I found a sense of community.
Welcome. Your DU experience is directly related to what you put into it.

(14,276 posts)This site is at its best when our backs are against the wall. We do a lot of in fighting when we Dems are in power. It gets brutal around here during primaries and elections. But in the end, develop a little rhino skin, maintain your sense of humor, and live by the golden rule. The Lounge is a safe space with two exceptions:
Whatever you do - don't express any strong opinions on fried chicken with corn flake breading or kudzu. I have seen people eaten alive in the Lounge over those two topics!
