Just wondering...are the mountains that you encounter when flying due west from Allentown to Altoona the Allegheny's or the Pocono's?? Those are very nicely depicted when using the flight simulator in Google Earth.

(17,193 posts)The Poconos are in the NE part of the state. Strictly speaking, they're part of the Allegheny chain, Pocono is a local name.

The Poconos are just some high hills, but the area in the Northeast quadrant of PA is quite nice.
It's part of the Allegheny (or Allegany) Mountain chain that stretches from West Virginia to upstate New York.
I think the folks in WV use the alternate spelling of Allegheny.
