In Texas we worry about bats and skunks as rabies vectors.
According to the department of health person teaching a course to my scouts, raccoons were not subject to the rabies virus until some idiots took some infected dogs to Maine with a strain that could affect raccoons. As of the date of the CDC chart, it appears that the rabies version for raccoons still has not crossed the Mississippi
