The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support Forumsstopped by randomly today and am now teary eyed (with bonus gratuitous kitteh pic)
i haven't even been lurking anymore for some time now, but got a wild hair to swing by today and was shocked to see that, even after a long absence (one check-in in several months), i still got valentine's hearts this year.
the fact that people here still think about me brought a little sun to what has been a pretty dreary life lately and reminded me why i love duers. i'm safe, housed, fed and clothed, but life is pretty much about making it to the next day right now and rebuilding myself. if you've been worried, i apologize and appreciate it, and want you to know that i do still think about you guys and hope you are well. not necessarily saying i'm back, but saying i'm still around and fighting the good fight.
and, as promised, here's your gratuitous kitteh pic

(15,801 posts)Are you still in FC? I've been blown away by the Tuesday actions there, what a great bunch of Dems!
Hang in, it's worth it!

(24,146 posts)the local action has been INCREDIBLE here. i've been as involved as much as i can but think i need to pick it up before the municipal elections in a couple of weeks. the mayor and three of the six seats are up for vote this year, including my district, and the board of realtors is pumping money into this election. i've been very pleased with my councilman (wonderfully progressive and always responsive when i've contacted him) and this is where we need to start anyway, so i may as well put my money where my mouth is and get involved.
how are things out there in the fourth CD?

(15,801 posts)The IRS is auditing the county commissioners (all GOP, by the way). The mayor (who is leaving at the end of this term, thank God) yelled at our solitary Dem city councilor when she requested, at a public meeting, a resolution supporting simple human decency toward immigrants; another councilor told her that she's "in the wrong community" -- she's native born and Hispanic. Even the Tribune demanded apologies. At the next council meeting, their "apologies" were embarrassingly pathetic.
So far, our Dems have three people running for city council, one running for county commission (and a couple more may step up). We've had several marches/demonstrations that have been well attended and well received, even by the Tribune. I'm not able to march any more, but I've been able to help with signage and buttons, etc.
And Buck still sucks. Bigly.
sigh..................

(24,146 posts)everything is still pretty much meh with a healthy dash of bullshit, but i'm in a better head space to deal with and fix shit. i have some amazing love and support in my life (like those two furturds) and i am beyond lucky for that.
so, things aren't quite ok just yet, but i haven't once stayed knocked down and i don't intend for that to change.
besides, spring is coming and my camera has been idle for far too long
eta: i hope you are well, my friend

but i have good friends, family of choice, who have really stepped up to take great care of me.
gonna have pizza and movie w the "grandkids" tonight.
you hang in there honey. one day at a time is all any of us gets.
i may or may not have ever said this to you, but i think it all the time: i love you and you give me so much strength and i am fucking lucky to know you.
still lots of flux in my future, but my head is on a lot straighter than it has been maybe ever and i know i got this because i have people like you who have my back.
