Or simply Mac, as he will be called most often. He joins Tui (full name Tui the Badger Slayer), a miniature dachshund and Pip (Pippish Paprika), a feist - not a breed but a type of squirrel hunting dog. Pip does indeed hate squirrels but has never hunted one - he does chase them away from the fence line though. The squirrels will stay just out of reach and mock the poor animal.
Both Tui and Pip have the exact same coloring - that of a red dachshund - but Pip has shaggy, uneven hair like a lot of terriers.
Mac is a dapple.
Mac is a rescue dachshund from a puppy mill gone very wrong. He, along with his siblings, was placed with a local vet to find placement. He is also a wedding anniversary gift. He is about 6 inches long and right at 7 ounces. He's also only 6 weeks old tops. The vet judged from his teeth and not his size. Dachshunds should remain with their mother, if at all possible, until 10 weeks.
He is currently keeping me awake so I made him pose for photos with my husband's moose slippers. I have cow slippers. Don't judge us.
For the price of care given and boarding, we got this little fellow who is currently still underweight and a runt's runt. He goes back to the vet in two weeks for more care and a follow-up.
But Mac is very feisty and has already bitten my adult miniature dachshund on the ear for being so bossy with him. Tui didn't mind. He knows Mac is also a dachshund and he was so excited by the puppy he presented us with a stream of tinkle as he danced about. Pip felt displaced and required extra loving. He was the baby of the house until today.
Now the important part - photos.
McPuddles Cuddle Waddles, but his friends call him Mac.

(24,259 posts)I just love the fun and funky name too. (And owning moose and cow slippers just makes me like you that much more. )
Oh and 'Doxies rock!' (My oldest is laying next to me and is insisting that I say so. )

(90,773 posts)Thus his name was born.
I love doxies. Tui is temperamental though and likes to boss everyone around. He and I argue quite a bit, in a playful way (on my part). I'm pretty sure Tui is serious. If you tell him "No" he lets you have it.
When Tui was still a puppy he growled out something that sounded like "Run" and my husband and I wondered if we shouldn't.
Maybe he knew something we didn't.
The rule in my house is that unless zombies are in the yard, no unnecessary barking. The dogs never listen. Anyone near the yard is a zombie to them.
You don't have to convince me that your doxie insisted you speak its praises. Dachshund are just that way.
I also have pink and white bunny ear flip-flops. I wear such footwear to amuse my four-legged children. (and I because it amuses me as well)

Lol! We live in the country so not many folks come near enough for them to enjoy barking at. They do however feel that they MUST warn us about leaf and icicle 'zombies' and dust 'fairies' that might be a threat. Living on an old farm we also occasionally get unwanted visitors who squeak and try to steal food, our doxies are awesome at helping the cats deal with those intruders.
Bunny ear flip-flops? Oh my... I definitely need to look for a pair of those.
A side note... Years ago we bought my much loved, and now late, MIL a pair of stuffed pink piggie slippers. She had a thing for pigs and absolutely LOVED them. So much so that hubby and I, who were in charge of her funeral, had her wearing them on her feet hidden from his stuffier family members in the casket. We knew in our hearts that she was giggling up a storm on the other side over it.

(90,773 posts)That or Pip thinks the wind is the enemy. Tui will come running from upstairs if he hears Pip bark, so the two of them can conquer the great whatever together.
I love the MIL pink piggies story! I would have done the same. Fancy footwear has a whole other meaning in my house and I see I'm not alone!
WePurrsevere
(24,259 posts)Oh you're definitely not alone. A wonky sense of humor has long been my favorite weapon when fighting life's annoying gremlins.

We adopted a doxie mix last August after being solely kitty cat parents for years.
Our girl exhibits all the traits you described. She alert barks. A lot. She no like cars driving by; heaven forbid you use our sidewalk. DON'T EVEN THINK OF RINGING OUR DOORBELL!:
Nothing wrong with youse guys' fluffy slippers. I am fond of quirky!
Many years in health and happiness to y'all. 💓

Puppies. They have to be cute. Makes up for all the fuss and mess. The cuddles and licks, not to mention a face filled with trust, can melt you inside.
I was looking at a cat when I saw the large number of puppies that needed a home. Our vet takes in stray, abandoned, or abused animals and offers them for adoption after getting them well. Turned out they only had one cat and she was already spoken for anyway. So I didn't feel guilty about not getting the cat.
Besides, Mac is already my baby.

(90,773 posts)I was trying to get something our of his hand and he held out that hand but had switched the item to his other hand. I kept swiping his little paw and he kept batting my hand as I did. The whole time, chewing away on the item with his head turned.
I didn't notice he had switched hands and was merely playing with the silly human.
It was an old chew toy I was hoping to replace. It was chewed down to nothing but he refused to give it up.
Yes, I feel comfortable enough to admit a chinchilla got the better of me.
Besides, it happened and there was a witness who still remembers and laughs about it. I live with said witness.

They rule they dog world and yours whether you like it or not. Hope being possessed by them is working out well for you. We still miss ours.

(90,773 posts)Tui has already used his neck on Mac and that's when Mac nipped his ear. It's going to be interesting to see who comes out on top.
Mac is feisty by Tui is where I'd put my money. He has ruled the roost for several years now. He is not about to give his top dog status away. Pip defers to Tui though when they roughhouse it's Tui who seeks rescue from all the rough play. He will run to the nearest parent to be picked up. They never bite each other but Pip is a little heavier and a lot taller.

(24,577 posts)A little bundle of feistiness...what every home needs! I wonder if hubby will every get his moose slipper back? Mac seems to have found a best friend there.
Solly Mack
(90,773 posts)So, that will be the last Mac sees of the moose unless they are the hubby's feet. We get a kick out of watching the dogs run after our silly shoes anyway. Oddly enough, the silly shoes stopped the regular shoe eating. Except flip-flops. Pip always destroys one flip flop of any pair. I match up the remainder and wear them around the house anyway.

(24,577 posts)if our animals weren't so darned entertaining, we would pack them a knapsack and send them on their way. So far the amusement value greatly exceeds the damage.
Solly Mack
(90,773 posts)It's safer to be out of the way when this happens. They will knock you down otherwise.
Pip even bounces off the walls to get ahead when he is behind whatever race they are running.
They play it outside as well. Not on walks though. Thankfully.

(12,232 posts)them, then tried to clean them, which left them completely drenched and bedraggled. Mama cat was not amused and rounded them back up.
The dog then adopted a small stuffed pig, which she licked from its old, grubby brown state back to a beigey pink. She would take it from person to person and nudge them to pet 'her baby.'
They receive the love we give and return it tenfold.

(90,773 posts)I am wondering who Mac will decide is his.
Tui is, of course, top dog. Unless Mac thinks differently when he's a little bigger. Pip is a sweetheart who goes with the flow and does his own thing.
When they awoke earlier, the first thing they did was check on the puppy. Usually the back door is their first point of business.

(205,503 posts)My puppy was a "pet shop rescue," had a health problem, too, so he couldn't be sold. Jack had a hernia that was repaired when he was neutered and it's never slowed him down! And all puppies are a handful, no matter what! I previously adopted older dogs, had adopted my other dog at age 9, so a puppy was an adjustment, LOL. He was 5 months old when he found me in 2006 and just turned 11 this month...

(22,264 posts)We are cat people (5 in the house) but I have always said that if I were to get a dog it would be a doxie. They just explode with personality, don't they? I did not know they came in piebald and spotted versions until quite recently. There was an adorable shorthair piebald who marched in Austin on Jan 21 (if being carried in a frontpack counts as marching)
Minis are my favorite, but my first experience with one was a standard which belonged to my aunt and uncle. I lived with them for 7 months when I was in 6th grade (they were stationed in Germany at the time and took me over with them) and Snoopy immediately claimed me.
When they came back to the States, he stayed at our house and g made it very clear that I was HIS person no others need apply. My mom's Chihuahua promptly took him out into the cornfield and proceeded to try and get him lost. It didn't work!
I have a facebook friend who has a pack of at least five brown longhairs. I love his pictures.
Looking forward to watching Mac grow up before our eyes !!

(90,773 posts)Mac somewhat fits that bill...aside from all the puppy behavior.
