How much money do advertisers think we have to spend on gifts?

My inbox is getting FLOODED with advertisements to buy gifts for Father's Day and graduates. I mean one was advertising a $2500 Surface laptop. Come on! My laptop I just bought was $1500, that is fucking insane. And then there was some jewelry chain that was selling a $6500 necklace. Seriously? What do they think constitutes as a "graduation gift" anymore? Or a father's day gift? Or a mother's day gift? Or any kind of gift? I've never got anything that nice! Seriously!

Half the malls in America will probably be out of business in a couple of years; everytime you turn around another major chain is closing it's doors.

I just got one advertising front row concert tickets. I've been to tons of concerts, I have *NEVER* sat in the front row, even for some of my favorite bands. It's insanity.

For you or me, $2500.00 is a bit much but I am sure that its peanuts for some people.

But then you'll probably be visiting the pay day loan vendors who advertise on the radio the next day.

... along with our email addresses.

If you tell your credit card company they can't sell your name, they won't do it. In other words - opt out whenever possible. I stopped getting a lot of spam emails when I started doing that.

Whenever you get spam emails, immediately "unsubscribe" and they have to take you off their list.

Just sayin'

including the memory upgrade after I get it. Use them until death.

The dollar value of my gifts is small. On the other hand I completely paid for college for both my daughters (less some scholarship aid they received).

No jewelry. Target level clothes. $25 smartphone.

I do spend a fortune on my pets though.

I got my mother/wife/MIL flowers for Mother's Day. My wife and I don't buy large gifts for each other. Hand written notes, flowers, and occasional treat like a local theater production.

I just bought one a few weeks ago. I typically try to stay in the $1,000 - $1,500 range. I keep my desktop PCs for 3 - 4 years before I have to upgrade, but I would never spend $3,000 or more for something like that, and I definitely wouldn't spend that kind of money as a gift.

were giving up on us peons and were gearing their ads for those making a couple of hundred thousand a year.

No idea if that is still true, but my guess is that yes it is in some cases.

You know the ones with the Lexus and Mercedes with the giant bow? And the one they kept playing last year where the kids were acting like the parents and vice versa, I wanted to nuke from orbit.

But, to be fair, we bought a house 6 years ago in late November. I joked to my husband that I got him a house for his birthday (which was just a couple days after we moved in).

Just what do all these people do for a living because it sure seems everyone out there is making at least twice as much as me.

Peace
