So I saw the rifftrax version of the 'Star Wars Holiday Special' the other day

They show the whole thing with commercials included (and riffed). What I found most interesting was that there was several pro-union commercials aired during the special.

It seems today those ads have been replaced by commercials for defense contractors such as Boeing or Lockheed Martin.

I mean, that special is pretty much a laff riot as it is, isn't it?

Why would someone feel like they need to provide a separate track of jokes to get other people to laugh at it?

Isn't that like shooting fish in a barrel? Isn't that sort of "easy comedy"? What could Rifftrax add to it?
