I didn't like him at first but he really grew on me. I don't generally like Star Trek too much, but I liked that series (mainly because of Janeway, she was ~amazing~!).

If it had to be a 'living human' (but still fictional) doctor, then I'd agree with you on House. My gastroenterologist is actually a lot like him, very brusque manner but skilled as all hell, punctual like you wouldn't believe (seriously, your waiting room wait is under 3 minutes), and he's rated among the best in Indiana. Only doctor on this planet I actually trust (I've had bad doctor experiences in the past).
