For my 50th birthday, February 22, 2013, Mrs. V. and I are going to Florida with my two sisters who live in California.
Mrs. V. and I will be picked up by a sedan service (they have limos, but we have such simple tastes; we'll settle for a Lincoln Continental ).
We will be delivered to National Airport* for our first class flight (airline undetermined).
We will be deposited at Fort Lauderdale's airport, where we'll pick up our car and drive ourselves to the Hollywood Beach Marriott. Not sure when we'll get my sisters to the hotel; their flight may actually arrive before ours. This remains to be determined. We'll spend six days/seven nights at this Marriott. We've stayed there three times before. It's wonderful.
One of my sisters and I will take at least one Segway tour, maybe two. We figure our other sister won't be interested, and Mrs. V's knees wouldn't be able to take it.
We are going to make the four-hour drive to Cape Canaveral to visit the Kennedy Space Center. My eldest sister is most excited about this. She's been to Ft. L. several times to visit her in-laws, and every time has hoped that she could make it to the cape. This time she will.
We'll go to our favorite greasy spoon in Hallandale for breakfast several times during that week, and probably dinner, too.
We might find a place to take an airboat tour of a small portion of the Everglades (because that park is vast). Such a tour was a highlight of a birthday trip we took for Mrs. V.'s bd a few years ago.
Best of all, we'll go to the beach every day but the day we go to the cape, lay on wooden chaise lounge under bright blue canopies, and get into the water very frequently, running back only to dry, then go back in. What good is the beach if you don't freakin' swim? Sometimes we'll go to their very nice pool, too.
We'll walk on the Broadwalk (not misspelled), eat stuff, look at cheap t-shirts, watch people, stop in our favorite watering hole, and in general relax.
Of course, much of this is contingent on our ability to save a gazillion dollars between now and then. Chances are we'll be flying coach with a connecting flight in Detroit, and staying in the Super 8. But no matter what, we're going!
I can't wait to turn 50!
* None of this "Reagan" National Airport bullshit. Name an airport after that fool after what he did? Bullshit.

Culminating with being in Sydney Harbour, December 31st, 2014 @ 11:59 pm to see in New Year's at the height of summer!!!
Planning is good, isn't it
