Watching DC 4th celebration

Could someone please book some newer talent? I'm 60, but the Beach Boys aren't the Beach Boys with NONE of the Wilsons. Jim Belushi just doesn't replace John in The Blues Brothers. And The Four Tops just aren't the same without Levi Stubbs. If I was 20 to 40 years younger I'd be pissed with this anemic talent line up.

lights atop the Washington monument are creepy as shit.

Looks like a Klan silhouette.

And yes I'm well medicated but I swear the lighting on the tree scape on the right of the screen looks like a skull...

Just saying and glad I wasn't able to score shrooms for the holiday.

I've probably seen The Beach Boys more often than I've seen anyone in concert since they were always my brother's favorite and I used to go with him. I even saw Carl's band when he was the opening act for - I think it was the Doobie Brothers. But I don't think we ever saw Brian, truly the heart of the band.

9. The Macy's N.Y. fireworks weren't televised in my area

Watching from the Lehigh Valley of PA, and for the first time since I can remember, nobody televised the Macy's fireworks. I saw most of the DC show, which was OK, except they kept cutting away from the fireworks to show the performers. They used to televise the Boston Pops & Boston fireworks which was always top notch. Then, they stopped televising that. Now, no Macy's. The Philly show was, for me, lousy. So disappointing.

I always watched it. Damn. Didn't they used to do the "1812 Overture"? I didn't even hear it this year. I hate when things change.

I watched Macy's on the Pittsburgh channels. It might have been the NBC affiliate? (Not sure.)

11. Way back when, the best July 4th celebration in DC was with the Canadians

If you happened to be a friend of the Canadian ambassador (and I realize there might a few out there to whom this did not apply), you got invited to a July 4th bash that the Canadians used to hold on the roof of their embassy in Washington, with an incredible buffet cooked by chefs flown down from Québec, a good live band, and the second-best view of the fireworks except for the balcony of the White House.

Those WERE the days.................

PS--the traffic getting from DC back to Virginia afterward was torture, but it was always worth it.
