I'm considering canceling my cable TV, subscribing to internet only (COX), and watching tv via an internet TV box box.
I have heard that there are caps on monthly internet data usage.
How much does watching tv over the internet use and what should I take into consideration?
Thanks

(26,366 posts)A single sided DVD holds a 2 hour movie or 4.7 gigabytes of data. So each hour of DVD quality video is
4.7gigabytes/2 = 2.35 gigabytes. You have 1,000 gigabytes/month so 1,000 gigabytes/2.35 gigabytes/hour = 425 hours of DVD quality video / month = 425/30-days-per-month = 14 hours of DVD quality video per day.
Netflix specifies a data rate of up to 7 GB/hour for "Ultra HD video" ( https://help.netflix.com/en/node/87 ) which would
give you 1,000 / 7 = 142 hours of Ultra HD video / month = roughly 4.7 hours of Ultra HD video / day every day for your cap.
