I still use Calvin Klein's Obsession.

(12,132 posts)but I hardly ever wear anything cologne-wise so I wouldn't even know what my favorite was. How long does cologne stay good? My HB bottle is closing in on 10 years lol.
Every once in a while I think I want to be a cologne-wearing guy but then there are so many choices I just give up. Smelling samples on the cardboard does little to help. My wife is no help as she couldn't possibly care less if I stink pretty or not.

(37,457 posts)I would think if the bottle is closed up, that it should still be good.

(9,895 posts)I used to get cologne as gifts all the time, but since I am on the downside of 40 and steaming into 50 soon, people seem to believe it is no longer appropriate as a gift ... which saddens me because while I like the smell of many colognes, I am simply far too cheap to buy it myself!!

(1,257 posts)I and several members of my family and a few acquaintances have a severe allergy to fragrances!
It can put my sister into the hospital, and has.
It is something that people should be aware of.
I once watched a coworker turn beet red, and get short of breath after a Russian woman wearing a heavy amount of cologne came into our store.
I hurried him out of the store, and told him to take a walk to induce fresh air into his system.
This is not the Middle ages, where such things were necessary to cover up the funk of humanity.
Nothing worse than getting trapped in an elevator with a heavy air of cologne or whatever!

I despise the scent of Axe - a point I mention whenever I catch a whiff on either of my millennial sons, followed by the admonition that 'less is more.'
As for myself, I use no olfactory augmentation.

(12,132 posts)my wife is a big fan of the Stephanie Plum books and once got me some Bulgari because that's what Ranger wears.
I don't think it worked quite as good on a middle-aged fat balding guy as it did on Ranger in the books.
I still have a jug of that somewhere.

(2,877 posts)This has been around since 1959, alas it doesn't last as long as I would like and it is somewhat expensive for my budget. I also love Givenchy Gentlemen, this does last and spray sparingly. I mix my cologne with just a hint of patchouli oil to make them last longer. Also realize that most cologne for men is patchouli based. I mixed Rugger by Avon with patchouli oil and got a ton of compliments and could not share my secret. A little does go a long way. Jacamo de Jacamo is very nice also, well back in the 80's.

Aristus
(66,327 posts)occasionally.
Mrs. Aristus is hypersensitive to fragrances, so I only wear it if I'm going somewhere without her.
AoS also produces a shaving oil and aftershave balm called Oude that smells a lot like the English Leather cologne I used to wear before I got engaged.

(46,179 posts)but I love it when men DON'T wear cologne.
It sets off my allergies. When I'm in the same room with a man wearing cologne (or a woman wearing perfume,) my nose is itching and running, I'm wheezing, and I'm miserable.
