The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsJust got home from recording a new song.
Kind of boring. Takes and retakes. In the end my track was the first one
kept. So I got to sit and listen to the many takes of the other parts.
Tomorrow we add two or three more tracks. I wish I had the acumen
to put the song up here.
Me and Jack did some fencing for this guy. He's an accomplished
sound engineer, and is doing this for trade.

(34,109 posts)like that a couple of times. Not my thing. We are recorded frequently but not like the studio gigs. The work involved in putting together an album is astounding. My kids do it but I am happy with my little gig of 43 years with the local symphony. I hope the song ends up the way you want it to.

(25,816 posts)I'm not that good, I just love playing.
My first two CD's were recorded in a trailer, the four of us in one take.
We couldn't afford all of the little tweaks.
MuseRider
(34,109 posts)that you think! I also think it is really cool that you do that. Sometimes those CD's are the best of all. None of us is perfect and to hear the real thing is pretty darned awesome I think. Like a concert, not always perfect but damn fine to listen to.
Have fun and never stop, never.

(25,816 posts)Used to play the Sorry Gulch and the Blues Café here in nearby Sierra Vista,
But those venues have changed. Played the Dragoon Saloon and Big Nose Kate's
in Tombstone a few times. Last time out was a party two weeks ago- so relaxed.
Please come visit sometime Kali--maybe I can sell your hubby some of
my scaffolding. We play here at my place every Sunday afternoon, and nearby
with acoustics once or twice a week. It's fun. Music, a few beers and a toke or two.

(55,008 posts)yeah I hear ya on starting time, we often joke about going to bed "before the first band has even started warming up"
he just said he might be interested in some more scaffolding (although we are having some "issues" with the truck this week, and my stock trailer has been at the neighbors for some welding for more than a year... sigh

(25,816 posts)Practice, of course, then loading amps, speakers, PA equipment, etc.
Then go set up, usually in the afternoon, and do a sound check.
Go home, try not to drink too much, go back at 8PM and play until
12 or so. Then load everything up again, go home and unload either that night
or the next day. Set everything up again. For $100 bucks.
You have to love it or it isn't worth it.

(54,378 posts)Back in the early eighties, I used to do the occasional gig in my spare time, but my top brass laid it down--do you want to be a starving musician, or do you want to keep your job? So I stopped touring, since I had no more spare time anyway.
But I still do the occasional studio work, and participate in TFT recordings from afar, sometimes even laying down track here in Germany which then get mixed in with the others in Atlanta (viva the internet age). There is a 75% chance that we'll do the Trump version of "They're Coming To Take Me Away Ha Ha" and have it wrapped within 2 weeks.
