Union election for United Airlines catering workers has begun!

Hey everyone!

Wanted to share some news about our organizing campaign for about 2,700 United Airlines catering workers from 5 cities across the country. They FINALLY begin to vote in a union election this week! If you aren’t already aware, this has been a long fight. In January 76% of the workers from Newark, Houston, Denver, Honolulu and Cleveland signed cards authorizing a union election. But rather than respecting the workers’ wishes, the company took action to stall the vote. It took several months and an unprecedented investigation by the NMB, but the election was finally scheduled!

Beginning this week, the decision whether or not to unionize is finally in the hands of the workers themselves.

The election got scheduled between September 18 and October 23. This gives plenty of time for anyone interested in sharing messages of support or helping amplify UNITE HERE content as we roll forward through this process. You can find some content to help amplify under the hashtag, #EqualityAtUnited (or secondary: #UnitedDoesntCare) or on our general Twitter feed @unitehere.
