The former head of a Douglas County public employees union has been accused of skimming at least $28,000 in dues.

Anne Hurley, a 15-year employee in the Register of Deeds office, was president of the Employees United Labor Association from 2009 to 2012.

In that time, the union says, Hurley diverted “some or all of the union dues from Douglas County to her personal use,” according to a civil complaint filed in Douglas County District Court.

The union contends Hurley also cashed checks for fake expenses and falsified financial records to cover up the theft.
