HI all, you may know this but I tried something new to me.

I volunteer at a charity thrift shop. Most of the merchandise donated goes in to the junk pile to be recycled by Planet Aid or other recycle organizations.
Sometimes we receive goods that need cleaning. Some not worth the effort, some are so bad that the goods are rubbish.
Friday we received 3 Hall Pottery casserole dishes that had separate metal surrounds.. One dish was cracked--one base was bent. Two had crusted on baked residue. Seemed to be no cracks or damage to either the covered dishes or the metal bases.
I took them home with the hope of cleaning them up for sale to we could sell them.
They would not fit in the pans I planned to soak them in.
Tried something else which I will do again.
I partially filled my washing machine with water, detergent and ammonia. It was just enough to cover the two good casseroles with their covers. Stopped the machine and let the stuff soak overnight.
Hallelujah, this AM, I took the dishes out and did a quick wash in the dishpan.
Both pans(ceramic) came out like new with very little elbow grease.
Polished the metal holders with metal polish. Both pans look like new.
Hope they sell. Sometimes the work is not worth the dollars received but these 2 pans look great.
I stopped the washing machine fill just as the water covered the pans(just the ceramic dishes). Let the machine finish its cycle after I took the pans out.
Great.! I will use this method again If I cannot fit 'whatever' in my big aluminum pots.
