And a beautiful first watercolor to break it in.

I recently bought myself a spiralbound sketch book, only 5"x 7", to encourage myself to go out and sketch before work or whenever I don't have time to devote to a more ambitious piece. I'm not sketching daily, but more days than not. I started after looking at Charlie Hunter's work and watching his video where he talks about the importance of regular sketching and shows off some of his own sketches.

In case you'd like to see it, although he's not a watercolor artist:

This is a long video, about fifty minutes, but he gets right into his work around three minutes in and folks can get a lot out of it without watching the whole thing.

Mr. Femmedem started drawing and painting about four or five years ago, partly because I had started up again and partly because he got the bug when he played Rothko in a two-man play and had to paint onstage. We enjoy having this shared interest, and we often watch an instructional video or one of Charlie Hunter's art talk videos together before bed.

You know when to stop and not overdo. I’ve yet to learn that lesson, but trying to follow your example.

like taking shorthand notes instead of longhand ones, if that makes sense? Too impatient to fiddle much. Lol

paint itself quickly with no agonizing and no going over and over things. Here’s one of them.
