as a gardener.

trees at not straight at the bottom. they not only have shoulders, they have arms. anchor roots. that you can see.
there is a really ancient old silver maple on my block that has fingers. a web of small roots all around the trunk.
the roots of a tree mirror the crown, and the health of the roots is obvious to those who can see the signs that a tree is stressed.

if that was a real tree, it would be dead and just slowly dying.

Seriously? You get that pissed off at an artist’s rendition of a subject? Loosen up! It’s only a representation, not some science project.

i didnt say i get pissed, just that it is a pet peeve.
i see logos that people paid big money for w the same mistake.

impressions are fine. but when i went to art school they still expected us all to have a copy of grey's anatomy somewhere.

It’s a tree that’s close to where I live so I see it in every season. I love the way it it moves in the breeze so I took the liberty of exaggerating the the way the tips of the branches curved up while other branches curved down from the weight.

I wouldn’t do anything like this again because though the first tree, the Winter one, came out very quickly, for the other two I had to do too much copying off the previous painting so it was impossible to do anything spontaneous and I couldn’t escape into the painting. I also have trouble with yellow because in acrylics yellows darken a lot when they dry. It’s not the easiest color to work with. It took me months to finish. But I’m satisfied enough to say they are finished, so I can move on. Thanks for the rescue. I really appreciate it.

I have the problem with both yellow and orange--they seem to be so transparent, they require multiple coats, which definitely takes away any spontaneity.

I'll bet the paintings would look great side by side!

I do put them together and they look more interesting that way. Each canvas is 24” X 36” which is relatively large and together they’re 6 feet wide by 3 feet tall. Add a few inches between them for spacing and they come out to a rather large painting. Size has as much impact on paintings as do all the other factors regarding their execution. And at least for me I prefer to use relatively large canvases since I started painting on them. But I’m glad I never tried doing murals! Areas that large are very limited!

I love the airiness and spontaneity of your style.
Interesting idea, as well, to paint the same tree as it changes each season. Your sky renderings are very nicely done to show off each tree.

I’m sorry to say I’ve really neglected my artwork. I come here looking for inspiration which I always find. I hope I do some painting soon! I miss it!
