so, i bought this painting on ebay.

i have made a couple posts about ruth van sickle ford.
she and i grew up in the same house. we never met, but she had a big impact on my life.
i have been collecting her paintings. i have 8 of her water colors, now finally an oil.
this is from early in her career, and i unusual in that it is pretty dark. her work is usually full of light and color. likely why i was the only bidder.
but i am esp pleased to score one that is not like her other work.

i rly need to get off my dead butt and get an image sharing account so i can post them all.

that it could well be a great investment. she was very, very prolific and didnt charge a lot for them at the time. she gave them away quite freely.
so, there are 100's and 100's of them out there.

when i get enough of them, imma start working my connections in they women's art community to get her a show.

she was an epic bitch. even her grandkids had stories about her.

when i say she influenced my life, one thing she taught me was- bitches get shit done.

she was widely recognized in her lifetime as a great artist and also a great teacher.
and a great friend to many, including walt disney. like bitches be.

she owned and ran a great art school, after being a teacher there.
she is said to have once walked up to a student's work and offered to lend him her reading glasses.

i've gotten to know her biographer. havent met irl, but have chatted a couple times. i am sure i will hear a lot more of those stories once this plague is over. but i grew up hearing stories about her.
