for help from somewhere inside the park. This was before cellphones and I had no idea where the shrieks were coming from, so looked around for a few minutes and they stopped. Called it in when I got home (no payphones there, either)

Checked the news next day and no news of attacks in the park, so it didn't apparently end in tragedy.

It's not the best video. There aren't any stores right there, which often have cameras, and it's under a scaffolding set-up. They might spot him walking on another block with another camera, with that 'I love NY' hoodie.
