(40,416 posts)1. Ooo! Music Man and Elmer Gantry!
Shirley Jones is great in both.
Music Man has Robert Preston, Buddy Hackett, Hermoine Gingold, Paul Ford, and a lisping Ron Howard. A great cast and a plot that does not take itself too seriously.
Elmer Gantry -- what can one say? Shirley's Oscar winning break out role. Burt Lancaster as the sleazy preacher. A fairly unforgettable film.
On edit: D.O.A. is real classic noir. Don't forget to nab that one either.

It needles the faults native to small-town America -- self-importance, credulity, gossip, etc. -- but with a smile and a song.
