The actor in the iconic Statue of Liberty scene at the end is Norman Lloyd, who is still with us and 102 years old. He was a close collaborator of Hitchcock and worked with him on many projects including his television programs. Lloyd is one of the greats having worked with the likes of Hitchcock, Welles and Houseman.

...including interviews and the like, but I was eager to keep as many details of both Saboteur (and for that matter Foreign Correspondent, which is not a Lloyd film) under wraps.

But I too am delighted that Norman Lloyd is still with us, and I've been looking for the documentary on his career, Who Is Norman Lloyd? I missed it when it was screened on the documentary film circuit, and at present I can't find a rental DVD.

5. Hitchcock and national monuments.

I think Hitch had a thing about these locations. He used them in two film climaxes, Saboteur at the top of the Statue of Liberty with the incredible sleeve seam ripping apart bit, and North by Northwest on the face of Mount Rushmore, actually literally on the faces of Mount Rushmore.

Interestingly, Hitch wanted to film a scene with Cary Grant hiding in Washington's nostril and have Grant's character go into a sneezing fit. It never made it into film. Too bad.

Love Hitch.

Don't miss Rebecca. A great film.
