In the daylight hours, TCM is full of murder! Then in prime time, TCM is featuring character actor Arthur Kennedy, with three films and two Oscar-nominated performances Though it's not his birthday, I really appreciate TCM's commitment to showcasing good actors. Enjoy!

When Edward tells Freda that she should have checked up on him with "Somerset House", he is referring to the British Inland Revenue (now known as the HM Revenue and Customs since 2005) headquartered in the building by that name. It is similar to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in the United States.

Most of the street scenes were shot on location in New York without the public's knowledge. Photographer William H. Daniels and his uncredited assistant Roy Tripp filmed people on the streets using a hidden camera from the back of an old moving van. Occasionally, a fake newsstand with a hidden camera inside was also set up on the sidewalk to secretly film the actors. Director Jules Dassin hired a juggler to distract the crowds, and also hired a man to occasionally climb up on a light post and give a patriotic speech, while waving an American flag to get the crowd's attention.

Many of the actors are playing other famous people in Hollywood. For example, James Mason's character is based on an Orson Welles persona. Richard Benjamin is playing Anthony Perkins.
