The music is by one of my all-time favorite film composers, John Barry, who sadly is no longer with us. He was prolific as heck though--everything from Bond films to Midnight Cowboy, Out of Africa, Body Heat, Dances With Wolves, and so many others.

So, now I do want to re-watch Born Free.

I'm obsessed now. The two actors in BF are married and became involved in animal conservation afterwards, esp zoo safety.

Beautiful film. I cried at the end. Watch it again if you can! It's on demand with TCM.

Wonderful film. People have criticized Joy Adamson because she was harsh to most human beings, but what she did and the impact of her book on wildlife rehabilitation are both so great that it is hard to measure them. When she rehabilitated Elsa, and later, she and her husband cared for the cubs when Elsa died, and released them back into the wild, she started something! See the films Living Free and A Lion Named Christian (AKA The Lion Who Thought He Was People).

I've been playing it. I like the Matt Munro version. Both Adamsons were murdered. Yes, they both sound like difficult people, but I do think they moved the conservation concept very far. She paid for Maru herself to preserve it, with book proceeds.

Elsa died from babeosis with her head in George's lap. She was dying and came back to their camp. How sad that was. Her grave is in Meru Park.

I will check out those films

turned it off when when the adults were killed in the beginning.

Saw the film when it was released in '66 (I was 8). Didn't bother me then.
