I didn't know there was even a Classical Music board.
Why isn't it under "Arts and Humanities"?
And not much activity.... but that's to be expected really.
And it's disappointing to see stupid stuff like "Thesis: Atonal music is crap. Discuss".
But we who like classical music should be used to all these quirks by now, No?
So anyway.... weekly I get obsessed with a Bach Cantata. As my friend Andrew says, you can literally just reach randomly into the 200 or so cantatas and there will be something worthwhile there.
This week I'm stuck on 2 cantatas: BWV 7 and BWV 100.
It took some time to find a version of #7 where the tempi didn't drag. (It's like people think if they play it too slow, it'll sound more holy, or something) The Tenor aria with the 2 violins as obligato is fantastic!

And BWV 100 is also simply fantastic. I find myself humming the Alto aria while watering the plants and doing the dishes.

Interestingly, the opening chorus is a reworking, with brass added, of the opening chorus of BWV 99.
BTW.... I'm not a musician of any kind and I don't speak German. I'm also a complete atheist. My delight in these works is purely instinctive..... artistry and quality draws me in.
Anyway..... enjoy!
