Dave wanted to do an album focused on unusual time signatures. Paul was all in.
While Dave was busy on Blue Rondo a la Turk, Paul came up with Take Five.
The two of them & the other players knew they had something special after the first rehearsal for the album.
Paul's sax tone on this is fantastic.

(3,395 posts)is by far one one of the best Sax players that ever lived, he caressed the notes with his instrument, and he was a great composer too.
Everyone gives credit to Dave Brubeck for that song, but he did not write it, Paul Desmond did.
Now, if you want to listen to a fantastically beautiful song by Dave Brubeck, listen to "Softly, William, Softly"...The Saxophone in this song is also so smooth, so beautiful.
