Pacific Gas & Electric - Are You Ready? (Live on Beat-Club, 1972)

Pacific Gas & Electric was an American blues rock band in the late 1960s and early 1970s, led by singer Charlie Allen. Their biggest hit was the gospel-tinged "Are You Ready?" in 1970.

The band was formed in Los Angeles, California, United States, in 1967, by guitarist Tom Marshall, bassist Brent Block, lead guitarist Glenn Schwartz (formerly of The James Gang) and drummer Charlie Allen, who had previously played in the band Bluesberry Jam. When it became clear that Allen was the best singer in the new group, he became the front man, and Frank Cook, previously of Canned Heat, came into the band on drums.

Originally known as the Pacific Gas and Electric Blues Band, they shortened their name when they signed to Kent Records, releasing the album Get It On in early 1968. The record was not a success, but following the band's performance at the Miami Pop Festival in May 1968 they were signed by Columbia Records.

Beat-Club was a German music program that ran from September 1965 to December 1972. It was broadcast from Bremen, West Germany on Erstes Deutsches Fernsehen, the national public TV channel of the ARD, and produced by one of its members, Radio Bremen, later co-produced by WDR following the 38th episode.

played on any radio broadcasts since that period. The band came to mind this morning and this was the first thing in the cue on YouTube. The single was their only big hit and was one of those songs that you start out loving but end up tuning out because it's been overplayed.

I was going to look for something else by PG&E, but gave this a listen because I'd never heard this particualr live version. Blew me away! I've fallen back in love with the song and the band.

You are most welcome! I hope others check out this obscure gem.
