1. I grew up in a conservative Methodist church

We had a youth choir that we were basically required to participate in.

We performed that song. I always liked it but I was destined to be a hippie.

Even then I thought it was a strange song to sing in church. I mean it actually is a a Christian message. Just not the one you usually see in a traditional Protestant church.
