He completely eschews the money and fame. He truly does it for love of music and would be doing the same without pay.
He bought his mom a house, but spends little on himself.

Indeed, if he wanted wealth and fame he'd lose the bluegrass and go mainstream. Quite a guy, quite a musician!

I’m a huge fan. Don’t know what he does with the money but he’s all about the music for sure. Hes been touring pretty much nonstop besides a month here or there for like 8 years. When he isn’t, good chance he’ll be sitting in somewhere with anyone from bluegrass to metal.

I’ve also just in the past year seen him play solo through his own band’s setbreaks because the venue curfewed him the night before and he wasn’t happy with the amount he gave the fans. This is playing through the 25 minute break in between 2 hour and a half long sets. Have also seen him go on instagram and play live for an hour for his fans late night immediately AFTER a 3+ hour gig. He can’t get enough.

Recently he announced in a pod cast that hes been taking classical guitar lessons so that he can feel more a part of the conversation when hes jamming with alltime greats like bela or chris thile. Thats a pretty egoless thing to do and announce publicly for a guitar player with 2 grammys….
