Kim Carnes made it famous, but Jackie DeShannon sang (and co-wrote) the song in 1974. Sounds quite different!

(86,600 posts)Jackie DeShannon. I don't care for this version... I like the instrumentals and arrangement of the Ki Carnes version, I just can't stand Kim Carnes' voice, like an alley cat with asthma. I did see on a teevee, many years ago, Kim Carnes and Jackie DeShannon together where Jackie played guitar while Kim tried to sing. I would have preferred Jackie DeShannon playing the guitar and singing that version!

(4,723 posts)Kim Carnes' voice is not appealing to me, and I think that the musical arrangement on Jackie's version is just not very good. I really like Jackie DeShannon's voice, though. T'would be interesting to hear her give the other version a go.

(86,600 posts)Bonnie Tyler, every time I hear them, all I can think is, "Geeze! Somebody let go of that girl's throat!"
As a trained vocalist, it kind of hurts my own throat to hear that.
