(8,052 posts)So much talent and musicianship, especially beyond their big three songs (Carry On Wayward Son, Dust In the Wind and Point of Know Return).

(5,640 posts)The deeper cuts are really where they shine in my opinion.
Any Kansas fan knows that the big three are only meant to catch the fish...

(2,133 posts)Love KANSAS, thank you for posting.
Long ago, when I lived in Alabama (the state, not the band, haha)... Kansas performed at the Convention Center when this was their popular song at time.
For SOME REASON, some residents actually 'picketed them performing'.
In the newspaper the morning after, Kansas was confused as heck why they were chosen to have picketers
from the night before. It was one of those WTF were you thinking? And all these years later... WHO THE HELL KNOWS!

(34,108 posts)the originals. They rehearsed in one of their parents garage just around the corner from my house. I heard them first as White Clover. Kerry Livgren's brother built my barn. His nephew as well. I do not know any of the band now but have run into Kerry occasionally until his stroke. I know I have told this here before. While I have had many occasions to meet and play with great musicians I still remember Kansas through the sweet eyes of youth. I always thought they were a good band.

(5,640 posts)Masque, Song For America and many others were exceptional albums and are to be considered classics in my opinion.
The tales you could tell...Thank you MuseRider.

(34,108 posts)are already here. Nothing more. I did not go out with any of them, I knew the bassists brother sort of, he was my age and they were the people that lived down the street. They were close enough that we heard them practice and I used to ride my bike around, like a lot of others, just watching them in the garage and listening. High School stuff. Other than side encounters I have nothing other than my High School Class gift to the school was to have a concert in our auditorium. We had Kansas (they may still have been White Clover) with the opening act of....amazing to remember this, Steve Martin. 1971 was a good year.

Thank you for the memory! And I agree, 1971 was a good year.
