The original?
Molly Tuttle?
Or, the first version I ever heard?

(35,140 posts)Judas Priest do it and I like it!
I have to go with Joan Baez. This came out just after my love of 5 years called me to tell me he had gotten married and was moving to Hawaii. I was so immersed in working on my music degree I had missed all the clues, I was hit like I had been hit by a car. This song was important to me.
I do not know much about Molly Tuttle but I do not like her voice on this recording anyway. It seems too fragile and iffy. Whatever, that is just what I think.
Judas Priest, wow. When I saw that I had to listen to it first, I could not imagine.

(13,728 posts)I thought it was a Priest original for years.
I actually like the original quite a bit now though.
And as much as I love Molly (Spoiler alert, I love her a lot) I have to agree that her voice is too delicate & pretty to give this lyric the horsepower it needs.
Rob Halford on the other hand crushes it

(29,503 posts)The other two are fine - it's a good song - though I don't know why Molly Tuttle made subtle changes to the lyrics that weaken them slightly.
But the original is so strong I actually feel that I am standing in the snow at Washington Square with heartbreak lying straight ahead.
