And such a large number of really quality acts played there in a few years. AC/DC's first American act, Zappa and Captain Beefheart's live portion of Bongo Fury recorded there two straight nights. There were acts coming just so they could play the Armadillo World Headquarters. It sure wasn't for the money. And at the time the population of Austin was about 180,000 with no suburban area whatever.
