(34,107 posts)Maybe not as flashy as some but that flash is showmanship not talent and ability. Good grief, they had plenty of flash. He played with a lot of jazz sensibility too and that always added a lot to rock.
I am sad and anyone who would not give him credit does not know music or how to listen to it.

(13,188 posts)Everybody thinks the Stones songs are easy to play until they try to do it right.
Charlie was a metronome and a master of the fill, but he was never getting in the way of the song
Loved him.

(34,107 posts)as you know, of any ensemble player. He did it as well as anyone and better than most, especially in rock.
I would love to hear a song or two of theirs without the drum. That would be mind bending, just to hear what he actually did. What he did was just amazing.
I love all the show off drummers too but the Stones would not be the Stones without what he did. I am going to be sad for a while now. What a life he must have had.

(109 posts)When I saw the Stones last time in Chicago in '06, Charlie (for the first time I ever saw) did a lengthy drum solo during the concert.
And it was an awesome solo! One of the best.
