was defined by him, a prominent American jazz trombone player, composer & swing bandleader. He added many fine musicians like Doc Severinsen, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa & singers the Pied Pipers, Jo Stafford & Frank Sinatra to his band. As I've mentioned here, my mom and aunt danced to his music live during college. Great times.
- Thomas Francis Dorsey Jr. (Nov. 19, 1905 Nov. 26, 1956) was an American jazz trombonist, composer, conductor & bandleader of the big band era. Known as the "Sentimental Gentleman of Swing" because of his smooth-toned trombone playing & his theme song "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You". His technical skill on the trombone was renowned. After Dorsey broke with his brother Jimmy in the mid-1930s, he led an extremely successful band from the late 1930s-1950s. He's best remembered for standards such as "Opus One", "Song of India", "Marie", "On Treasure Island", & his biggest hit single, "I'll Never Smile Again"...
