(1,364 posts)He is talented - so what? Trump is rich - so what? Guiliani was Mayor - so what? They are all disgusting, why can't you appreciate them on your own time, why do you have to force them into our faces? I don't get it?

(48,978 posts)music I don't like by artists I don't admire. I don't feel compelled to take a verbal dump on those topics for that reason.
As was pointed out in the topic I linked to, this group is for MUSIC APPRECIATION.

(1,364 posts)I am allowed to comment...and I have. Just because you appreciate the music of a racist piece of sh.t does not mean we all want to hear about it.
highplainsdem
(48,978 posts)you also felt you had to critique.
I'm so glad most people here don't feel they have to weigh in if they don't like a particular artist or song.
Artists in general are NOT politically correct. A lot of them have personal lives that wouldn't take the kind of scrutiny we here at DU like to give politicians, especially RW politicians. A lot of them have political views, and business relationships, that also wouldn't stand up to intense critical scrutiny.
But we're not looking for saints here, political or otherwise.
We're appreciating MUSIC.
And we have diverse tastes.
And because of that, it's usually a good idea to accept that other people have a right to like art and artists you don't like.
So far we DON'T have a group here for Complaining About Other People's Lamentable Taste In Music And Musicians.
But maybe you could start one?

(48,978 posts)offered the interesting hypothesis that it was about Clapton's lust for Trump.
Sigh...

(48,978 posts)he physically abused women.
https://www.seattletimes.com/opinion/happy-birthday-john-lennon-re-examining-a-flawed-icon/
Lennons critics, of which there has never been any shortage, can point to his many failings as husband, father, son and friend, not to mention his alcohol and drug abuse, anti-social behavior and treatment of women. In the song Getting Better Paul McCartney laments, I used to be cruel to my woman, I beat her and kept her apart from the things that she loved. Sir Paul wasnt singing about himself.
Not long before he died, Lennon admitted he wrote the lyrics. I used to be cruel to my woman, and physically any woman. I used to be cruel to my woman I was a hitter I fought men, and I hit women. That is why I always go on about peace, you see. It is the most violent people who go for love and peace I am a violent man who has learned not to be violent and regrets his violence. I will have to be a lot older before I can face how I treated women as a youngster.

As I've said elsewhere here, this group is for appreciatimg music -- the art that's been created.
There are no perfect artists.
They're all human. They all have flaws.
And it's a needless distraction from the purpose of this forum to point out the flaws in the character of artists others like but you don't, when I assume you wouldn't want them doing the same to your favorite artists.

(48,978 posts)worshipped. But they both created some music that can be appreciated, and that IS the point of this group.
I would not want to see every thread here that mentions John Lennon's music include replies focusing on his flaws.
And I think people who appreciate Eric Clapton's music - and the Beatles did - deserve equal consideration and respect.
Otherwise, you're completely missing the point of this group.

(6,080 posts)And yes, he does need to be canceled. John more than made up for his past. Clapton doubled down. Talent is wasted on him and he does not deserve a place of honor on Democratic Underground.

And I saw using Search that you've done that in the past and even (apparently) got one person to delete an OP.
I hope that won't happen again.
Maybe you should start an Approved-By-Lunabell group, where you won't have to be upset by someone liking music created by an artist you don't like.
