Just me by myself in a friend's studio (which was in his den) one afternoon late 90's ... I sang, played everything, recorded, produced, etc in about a 2 hour span ... unrehearsed, so don't laugh.
I also only actually 'play' guitar so everything else is just me dicking around, leveraging the eight recording tracks I had available with instruments laying around his studio (bass, fender rhodes piano, tambourine, harmonica). So again, don't laugh

(48,974 posts)and that's my expert opinion, fwiw.
And for all you know, you might be able to sing even better these days.
If your new lady encouraged you to let people hear that track, good for her, and please thank her for me! For all of us here!

You'd have never come across it, it's an unlisted YT vid I just shared with my lady, and my friends on DU, and just uploaded today, even though it's ancient
Thanks so very much, I'm honored you enjoyed
Edit: I just made it public instead of unlisted. Maybe I'll be famous someday

(33,643 posts)I'm completely clueless on piano, just came up with a couple riffs and that's it, just some color.
But you're right ... the Rhodes makes everything at least kinda cool

(70,090 posts)this is the one i'm dying to sing-
my one musician friend is a blues guy. not a steve fan. trying to convince him that terraplane is a steve earle record he could love. it's a weird relationship, and i cant see any other duet i could get him to consider. lol. this one sorta fits, tho.
i wanted to post a live clip, but they all had shit sound. one of them starts w him saying they had the album all worked out when someone asked- where's the duet?
steve- i hadnt given a thought to writing a fucking duet for this record for a lot of reasons. but eleanor whitmore is out traveling around singing these songs i wrote for other women, and i think she deserves one of her own.
steve writing a song about a woman he wasnt in love w cracks me up.
Hugh_Lebowski
(33,643 posts)That's a great song. Not really blues, as such, but ... hope you can talk him into it, and share with us all when you record it.

(65,010 posts)It's good, Hugh. And, that isn't even my kind of music! But, I liked it.
I couldn't do a minimalist thing like that. I'd need more density, so good on you.
