Here's something I've wondered for quite awhile. As originally written, the lyrics were the same but the song was lacking the spark of the original.
Manzarek's organ beginning as well as Morrison's singing was a lot more restrained than the version which electrified the rock world.
Wonder how successful the song would have been had the original been recorded and who had the idea of really ramping it up. Probably not known now who revamped it, it was quite probably a team effort.

Just musing about a maybe. The song was a smash hit and had quite an effect on music. And a little over a month later Jimi Hendrix came out with
Are You Experienced? As we know that one really shook up the music world. As did a number of other musical acts. The Summer of 1967 was quite a season for music.
But Jim and then Jimi really turned the rock world around.
And Jimi and then Jim both became members of The 27 Club.

But this was them working on the song and by the time they were headlining in Sunset Strip night clubs they were singing the version we all know.

I thought that since all the Doors were still alive they'd tell stories about the song!s evolution. Or maybe it was just Stone.
So theirs no hard evidence of this. I didn't mean to deceive purposely but I reckon I have. Sometimes memories merge. It's a couple of movie shots I accepted as fact.
My apologies. I'll delete the post if you think that'd be proper.
