We were supposed to be on a Rick Steves tour there this month!

For a variety of reasons, we postponed to next year.

Hope we get to go. Lucky you!

to mid May. We had scheduled a bike tour with a US group. We had been planning to go to Athens over 2 years ago for my 69th. But...
Then the year after....
We figured we would spend most of out time outside. So it would be relativ safe. After that we spent the rest of the time driving around the island by ourselves. I really like Crete. I was stationed east of Iraklion in the mid 70's for 2 years.
This year was good. It was a little cooler than normal and the tourists weren't there yet.
Hope you get to go.

Two things to remember.
1. There will always be glitches, roll with them. Had a nightmare weekend in Paris. Reserved for a day earlier and my reservation was gone. It was fashion week, during a heat spell. ended up in 3 hotels for 3 different nights in different parts of the city. Fun stuff.
Still married.

2. You can't see everything. Don't try. Pick one must for the day and enjoy any others you may have time for. We tell that to Europeans coming to the US.

When on a couple of bike tours in France we started "European biking' our name for it. Breakfast and hit the road. stop hour or so later for coffee, stop an hour or so after that for lunch, Stop a ways later for a soda or beer, then finish the day with a a shower before dinner.
If you can plan 2 nights minimum in every location. You get to see the place better.
