Caught the Moon rising with Jupiter (Jove) right next to it this evening just after the Sun had set on the other horizon, this is about as close as they are going to get in the sky this month. I have Stellarium, an open source planetarium program, on my computer and was looking to see if there was anything interesting to image and I noticed that the Moon and Jupiter were going to rise very close together so I rode my bike to a spot where I could see the Eastern horizon as well as possible, we have so many trees around here it's hard to find a place like that.

I was driving from New York to Vermont this evening and vowed that I would get my camera out tomorrow night and get a shot of the two... thanks for the inspiration 
(plus I found a couple inches of snow in my yard when I got home... needs photographing

There's only one day a month they are close, that will be the next opportunity, shortly after dark on Christmas Day, they will rise quite close together and be the closest right about 6:30 PM Eastern time. You probably won't be able to see Jupiter at moonrise, the Sun will still be in the sky then and the sky will be much brighter than it was for me this month.
You really have to plan ahead to get the best astronomical shots, I'd been planning this one for a couple of days.
Put the free Stellarium on your computer and you can do your own advance planning, it's a gorgeous display, really does a good job of simulating the night sky.

ETA: You're going to have to set manual exposure to get the Moon properly in a dark sky, about what you would set for a bright but overcast day, almost all autoexposure systems are going to overexpose the Moon a lot in a dark sky, some experimentation beforehand to get the right exposure is a good idea.
