to digital. If so, would you recommend them? I need to have about 20 slides converted.

(118,663 posts)That was in HFX. Had film turned into digital dvds at another photography shop In Ottawa. He sent it away too. Charged me an arm and a leg. I got in touch with a guy who could do the conversion from his house for more film. Found him in the yellow pages. Doubt the photography shops are around anymore. If they are I would call ahead and get a competative quote. Better yet, try the internet.

(9,809 posts)The article above uses a phone, and since phones have wide-angle lenses, you have to block out stray light; hence the tubes. "Zooming" a phone is usually not optical, so you lose resolution, and most have only 12 megapixels.
If you have a digital camera that will focus close (you can add a "plus" lens on the filter ring) you will get more resolution (16 or 24 megapixels) and a simple lens hood will block stray light, though a normal lens won't have much problem with it.
I have used a very old Epson scanner with top light (for transparencies). If you have a photo club nearby, perhaps someone can loan you a scanner with top-illumination.
And TO YOUR POINT:
Ken Rockwell has a list of photo labs that he trusts.

Ken makes a living from affiliate links, but I find his advice to be pretty good.
