January 2013 Photo Contest Theme is...

Hello Everyone!

The theme for the January 2013 Photo Contest will be: Lost or Discarded Items.

Lost or discarded items are objects people have dropped/lost while out. Things people have thrown away. Things you see on the street and other places like shoes, toys, furniture, etc.. You may even have your own idea about what is lost or discarded. Go for it!


Submissions will begin on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 16th and end Saturday afternoon, January 19th - or until we reach 30 entries. Whichever comes first. If we do not get 30 entries the number of submissions received will be divided into 3 preliminary threads and voting will proceed as usual. Prelims will begin shortly after submissions are closed. Prelims will last 72 hours. The Final will be posted shortly after Prelims close and will also run for 72 hours. I'll post the results shortly after that.

About entries:

Entries can be in Color or Black & White. No Sepia. No Infrared. No HDR. I will allow Focal B&W. Focal B&W is a B&W photo with a splash of well placed color.

Entries should adhere to the Pixel/File size rule. ( "no larger than 800 pixels in its longest dimension and under 250K in file size" ) I will allow some wiggle room on file size but not on dimensions.

If the group wants to change either pixel or file size allowed, then a poll/thread should be started so everyone can vote on and discuss any changes. I will not be starting that poll. I've got my hands full already. If the rule is changed prior to the 16th, the new rule will apply to the January contest. I know there has been some discussion on a change but nothing definitive was decided.

Celebration has a "How to...for running contests" thread which gives some background on contests and how the rules came to be.

I hope everyone is excited by this month's theme. I know I'm looking forward to seeing the submissions.

8. I've been saving mine at 250k because some of the past had changed to 250k.
