This was going to be my entry:

Love the light and shadows.

(90,764 posts)I am sorry you missed it. It is unfortunate. Your photo would have done well, I think.

(28,466 posts)These photos are magnificent and surely would have won. I think the second one is the best - certainly fits the theme best. But it's the casual nature of it, the glimpse of "discard' caught glancing down the street, almost voyeuristic. In the most tragic of ways.

(14,040 posts)Didn't know that, thanks!
Yeah, the idea of homeless hit me immediately because, to me, they seem both lost and discarded most times.
I really like the second photo, the reflection in the glass was a very happy accident.

(22,756 posts)The first photo certainly portrays lost/discarded... difficult to look at... I think it is a winner even if you didn't make the deadline

(15,812 posts)You know, I did wonder if someone might miss the thread pinned at the top--though we have been doing that for awhile. I do think once everyone gets used to it, it will help, though. So sad this isn't posted in the group. Save for another contest!

(22,380 posts)These are heart rending, especially the second one. I hope this won't happen to you again.

(18,628 posts)You realy take advantage of the format to express yourself.
I Particularly like the second one. It reeks of despair. Colored neon would have just made it look like midtown on a weekday.
Nice job.
On edit, I tried last fall to do what you accomplished so well. I fell short:

(14,040 posts)I'd have to say it was more luck than anything else. The light, the shadows, everything just sort of conspired to turn out right. I didn't know how that second or third would turn out because I was shooting from the hip (meaning, I didn't really compose the shots).
Your shot looks like it was taken at night. It's easier for b&w to be dramatic if there is a lot of play in the light.
